Eir Announces Rollout of WiFi 7 Technology for Broadband Customers

Eir has rolled out Ireland's first WiFi 7 home broadband service, bundling emerging IEEE 802.11be technology with its 2 Gbps fibre plan.

The technology launched in February 2025 and employs a tri‑band WiFi 7 system with some serious specs, including:

• Support for up to 200 devices
• Double the speed of WiFi 6
• Integrated mesh‑style "Wide‑Fi" network to reduce internet dead zones

As of 4 June 2025, eir upgraded all eligible 2 Gbps customers automatically to its new 5 Gbps broadband tier at no extra cost. At 5 Gbps speeds, even large game downloads (up to 80Gb+) can take as little as two minutes!
